1. Introduction & Compliance

This privacy policy governs the use of the ScholarGen mobile application created by ScholarGen Education. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.

Data Controller: ScholarGen Education is the data controller responsible for the MongoDB database where user data is stored.

2. Information We Collect (The "What")

Since we use Node.js/MongoDB, we directly collect this data on our server.

Personal Information

  • Name: Used for personalization.
  • Email Address: Used as your unique User ID, for login, and for password recovery.
  • Passwords: Used for account security. We store your passwords in an encrypted format using industry-standard hashing. We cannot see your actual password.

Financial Data (Via Paystack)

  • Transaction Reference: We store the transaction ID sent back by Paystack to verify payment.
  • Payment Status: Used to unlock Premium features.

Crucial Disclaimer: We do not collect or store your Debit Card numbers, CVV, or PINs. All payments are processed securely through Paystack, a PCI-DSS compliant payment processor.

Academic & Usage Data

  • Quiz Scores, Subjects Practiced, and Exam History: Stored in MongoDB to track student performance.

Device & Technical Data

  • IP Address: Automatically collected by our servers for security logs.
  • Device OS/Model: Used for troubleshooting bugs.

3. Lawful Basis for Processing (NDPA Requirement)

We process your data based on the following grounds:

  • Contractual Necessity: We process your Name, Email, and Payment Reference to fulfill the service (unlocking JAMB/WAEC past questions) you purchased.
  • Legitimate Interest: We process your Quiz Scores to provide you with your performance history.
  • Consent: We send you essential service updates (like syllabus changes) via email based on your signup consent.

4. Third-Party Data Sharing

Even though we don't use Ads/Analytics, we do share data with trusted partners to facilitate our services.

  • Paystack (Payment Gateway): We share your email and transaction amount with Paystack to facilitate payment processing. You can view Paystack’s privacy policy on their website.
  • Hosting Provider: Your data is stored on secure servers hosted by our third-party infrastructure providers.

5. Data Retention & Account Deletion

Retention

We retain your personal data (Name, Email, Scores) for as long as your account is active.

Deletion Request

You have the right to request the deletion of your data at any time. To request deletion, please contact us at info@scholargens.com or use the 'Delete Account' button located in the App Settings.

6. Security Measures

We implement strict security measures including HTTPS (SSL) encryption for data in transit between the App and our Servers.

Database access is restricted, and sensitive credentials are hashed before storage in our MongoDB database.

7. Children’s Privacy Policy

This service is intended for students preparing for UTME/WAEC (typically aged 15-18). We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent. If you are a parent and believe your child under 13 has provided us with data, please contact us for immediate deletion.
